Tyler police Tuesday continued to investigate a weekend baby death.
Officers responded to the 1200 block of North Ross Avenue on Saturday at 9:18 p.m. in reference to an child who was not breathing, police spokesman Don Martin said.
“The mother told police that she placed her 2-year-old son and her 7-month-old infant on a bed. She stepped out of the room and told officers that the infant fell off the bed, striking the floor,” he said.
Martin said EMS took the infant to Mother Frances Hospital; the boy was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Dallas.
The child was taken off life support Monday and later died.
Martin said an autopsy will be conducted by Southwest Forensics in Dallas to determine the cause of death.
He said the death was being investigated as a suspicious death at this time. Both parents were home just before the initial 911 call.
