Tyler ISD will have two meetings to discuss the new high school graduation requirements with parents of current eighth- and ninth-grade students.
The meetings are scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday in the John Tyler High School Theatre and 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert E. Lee High School Fine Arts Building.
Dr. Christy Hanson, TISD’s chief academic officer, will discuss the effects of recent state legislation on graduation requirements and the expectations for high school students starting in the 2014-15 school year.
“Beginning next year, eighth-grade students will be required to graduate under the new graduation plan and current ninth-grade students will have a choice between remaining on the ‘old’ plans or moving to the new (House Bill) 5 plan,” Dr. Hanson said, according to the news release. “Therefore, the information provided in the meetings will help parents and students make the most informed graduation decision possible.”
