(MCT) -- The Seven Points City Council has approved moving Mayor Pro Tem Bill Hash into the vacant mayor's seat.

Mayor Kevin Pollock resigned to run for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 and is in a runoff election with Judge Dale Blaylock.

Hash had reason for wanting to be placed in the mayor's seat.

"If the council ever has a tie vote, there will be no possible way to break a tie without the Mayor as a tie-breaker," Hash said.

Hash had already announced his candidacy for mayor in the May 10 election.

Former Mayor Gerald Taylor also is running for the seat.
