MAKER: Rockytop Woodworks in Tyler

 

BACKGROUND: Rick Hensley has been working with wood for more than 30 years and specializes in arts and crafts and mission-style furniture.

He enjoys building from the harvesting of the tree and only harvests trees downed by storms or removed for construction, according to his website,www.custommade.com . Native woods he works with most include walnut, white oak, red oak, cherry, ash, pecan, hickory, pine and mesquite.

 

PRODUCTS: He builds furniture from the wood — domestic or exotic — the customer chooses and finishes each piece one at a time.

His work includes tables, book shelves, hutches and dining room furniture, desks, drawers, bathroom cabinets, bedroom furniture, chests and signs.
