SEAGRAVES — An East Texas oilfield worker was killed Thursday on a job site near Seagraves.

James Croft, 43, of Tyler, died at the scene of an industrial accident where K&L Oil Field Demolition was taking down structures at Venture Chemicals, according to Terry County Sheriff Larry Gilbreath.

Croft was operating an excavator when his coworkers were attempting to take down a silo tank. The silo tank fell prematurely and landed on Croft and his equipment.

The impact was strong enough to kill the worker. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward by the local justice of the peace.

Venture Chemicals is on an isolated stretch of land along U.S. Highway 62/385, a few miles northeast of Seagraves.

Croft leaves behind a wife and five children.
