(MCT) -- Henderson County commissioners have authorized the sale of county property on Jonathan Street in Athens to the Nautical Affordable, which plans to make it the site of an 80-unit low-income development called New Haven Apartments.

The property has been through one delinquent tax sale, with no takers. The transfer of the property is contingent on the buyer getting an award of housing tax credits from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs.

Don Ball of Nautical said the company has had success in obtaining tax credits in the past. He expects a decision in July.
