NOONDAY (KYTX) - A Smith County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a multiple vehicle accident Wednesday morning.
It happened around 9:30am at the intersection of Highway 155 and FM 344 and FM 2661. Noonday fire fighters immediately requested additional help on the scene.
Smith County Sheriff's Department spokesperson John Moore confirmed a deputy, Tim McDonald, was involved in the crash. McDonald has been with the department for a little over a year.
"He was injured," Moore said. "But we don't know to what extent. The trooper was able to radio in the accident himself," according to Moore.
Moore said the deputy was being taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Troopers say Chevy Trailblazer was driving at a high rate of speed down Highway 155 when he hit the Sheriff's Deputy car. The Deputy then collided with 4 other cars, all traveling north on 155.
A witness told CBS 19, an SUV did not slow down and crashed into the deputy's vehicle.
The driver of the SUV is still on the scene. Traffic was down to one lane in the northbound lane of Hwy. 155, but they are not starting to clear the accident.
