Tyler Junior College board members and Citizens 1st Bank announced a program that will allow Rusk ISD students into the college on scholarship.

The Program, Rusk ISD/ TJC Citizens Promise Program, is funded through the Perkins Family Foundation and Citizens 1st Bank.

The model allows the top 50 percent of qualifying students at the high school, currently 67 students, to receive $4,000 per year ($2,000 per semester) to attend the junior college. Officials expect the program to begin in the fall.

There are currently 22 promise programs in the United States, and this would be the first in Texas.
