The death of a woman shot this morning has led to murder charges.

Jennifer Ramirez Mata, 31, was allegedly shot by her husband, Adrian Mata. Mrs. Mata had three children -- ages 11, 6 and 2.

Mata was arrested by Smith County Sheriff's deputies at 18348 Serenity Way, near The Villages in south Smith County, according to emergency radio transmissions monitored at the Tyler Morning Telegraph newsroom.

Mata has been charged with murder and aggravated assault/family violence with a deadly weapon. He was being held on bonds totaling $1 million Wednesday night.

A woman who was shot on County Road 333, also known as Poplar Road, this morning just outside the Tyler city limits is in very critical condition at a local hospital, a family member told the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Several evidence markers were in the roadway, numbered into the twenties, possibly indicating the positions of shell casings. The location is immediately behind International Trucks.
