The Tyler ISD board of trustees is seeking the community’s input in the naming of two new facilities scheduled to open in fall 2015.

These facilities include a new middle school located near Three Lakes Parkway in south Tyler and a Career and Technical Education Center located at the corner of Earl Campbell Parkway and Bennett Drive, according to a TISD news release.

Facilities may be named after a person who has served the district or community; a local, state or national heroic figure; or any local state or national geographical area, according to school board policy.

A person whose name is considered must have made a significant contribution to society and/or education, and the name should lend prestige and status to an institution of learning.

The board also has received a recommendation to consider renaming Dixie Elementary School and is seeking community feedback in this matter before moving forward with this request.

Community members who want to provide input are asked to email communications director Dawn Parnell at dawn.parnell@tylerisd.org.

The email should include: the facility for which the name is intended; the suggested formal name of the facility; and the rationale behind choosing the suggested name, according to the news release.

The school board will consider all input before making final decisions this spring.
