City-Wide Black History Celebration: Campbell to speak at event on Feb. 22

The annual City-Wide Black History Celebration will be held Feb. 22 at Tyler’s Municipal Garden Center.

The celebration is hosted by the African-American Cultural Events Committee and starts at 7 p.m., according to a news release.

The keynote speaker is Earl Campbell, the 1977 Heisman Trophy winning Longhorn and Tyler native who appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated six times.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for children 12 and under. The event will include dinner.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Sickle Cell research and Awareness and college scholarships. Sickle Cell is a blood disease that is prominent in the African American community.

Sponsorships for the event are also available until Feb. 19.
