The Salvation Army in Tyler will hold the 9th annual Don R. Pinkerton Memorial Charity Golf Tournament and Games Day on April 7 at the Cascades Golf Club.

“This tournament sells out every year so we are anticipating some good and healthy competition,” Pat Pinkerton, tournament director, said.

Teams must preregister by contacting Mrs. Pinkerton at 903-592-7166.

On tournament day, team check-in begins at 11 a.m. This also will be the last opportunity to purchase raffle item tickets and golf balls for the helicopter ball drop ,which will begin at 12:30 and involves two cash prizes. Games Day, which includes Mah Jongg and Bridge, will begin at 1:30 p.m. The 4-Man Scramble Tee time begins with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

During the event, there will be a silent auction. Auction items are donated by local businesses in the Tyler community.

All funds raised go directly to support the many programs and services The Salvation Army provides for the East Texas community. Major sponsors are encouraged to contact Pat Pinkerton today to be included in television advertising for the tournament.

Pinkerton was an advocate for the less fortunate in the community and the services provided to them by The Salvation Army.

In his honor, Mrs. Pinkerton annually hosts this tournament, continually funding the programs and services that he loved.

“Unfortunately, the number of people seeking assistance through our programs and services, many for the first time in their lives, continues to increase, and it is due to the generosity and support of the Tyler community that we are able to continue helping the ‘lost’ get back on their feet,” said Maj. Ben Lawrence, commanding officer for The Salvation Army in Tyler.

To date, more than $294,200 has been raised at the annual tournament.
