With the recent threats of extreme winter weather, Tyler ISD officials are updating the community regarding their procedures for delaying or canceling school. The safety and welfare of students and staff is a priority during these times, according to a district news release.

Tyler ISD School Cancellation or Delayed Opening Process:

— To determine school closings, the TISD transportation department monitors weather conditions throughout the evening and morning hours.

— As early as 4 a.m., transportation officials travel roads to perform road checks to include bridges and overpasses.

— A road conditions report is given to the superintendent and a decision is made to continue with the normal schedule, delay school opening or cancel the day’s classes.

— The district communicates the delayed opening or cancellation by 6:15 a.m. through its Blackboard Connect Notification System, the TISD School Connect mobile app, TISD website and social media sites, TISD-TV Channel 19, and local media outlets.

Tyler ISD Early Dismissal Process:

— The transportation director monitors road conditions and weather reports throughout the day before advising the superintendent of current conditions. The superintendent decides if conditions warrant an early dismissal.

— If an early dismissal decision is made, the transportation department requires at least one-hour to recall all drivers before sending them to campuses.

— The district will communicate the early dismissal time through its Blackboard Connect Notification System, the TISD School Connect mobile app, TISD website and social media sites, TISD-TV Channel 19, and local media outlets.
