The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary will hold its 11th Annual Chili Bowl and Auction from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Harvey Convention Center.

Charlie Baker will be cooking a famous recipe provided by former Smith County sheriff J.B. Smith, who cultivated it after his years of experience as a judge in the World Championship International Chili Cook-Off in Terlingua.

“The Chili Bowl generates much needed revenue to provide the services offered as the need for food and shelter continues to grow in our community,” said Major Doris Lawrence, corps officer for The Salvation Army in Tyler. “The Salvation Army welcomes those in need with soup, soap and shelter first, and then provides them with God’s Word.”

Ed King, operator of Chick-Fil-A in Tyler, will be providing the Chicken Noodle Soup for attendees looking for a less spicy option. Dessert will be provided by Jimmy Lynn of Dakota’s Steak and Chop House. Entertainment will be provided by Jerry Davis and the “Old Guys Rule” band.

Silent and live auctions will include footballs autographed by Earl Campbell from the University of Texas and Johnny Manziel from Texas A&M; a Swakara genuine South West Africa karrabul lamb and sable coat; and a state senator chair with seal.

Also to be included in the auction are Brookshire’s groceries for a year; a copper horse art sculpture; a ladies handbag by Paige Hamilton Design; a vintage authentic handmade silver necklace; and a table for eight at SAWA Spring Fling.

Another item up for auction will be a brand new Trane three-ton 13 Seer XB13 air conditioner, with installation provided by Four Seasons Heating and air conditioning.

The winner of the 11th Annual Chili Bowl and Auction will be determined by the highest auctioned autographed football.

Tickets are available for $10 and may be purchased from The Salvation Army office by calling Jennifer Jones at 903-592-4361 or at the door. Those interested in joining The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary may contact Brenda Yates at 903-581-6810.
