TURNERTOWN -- An autopsy shows a man found dead in his pickup earlier this week died via homicide.

Rusk County Sheriff Sgt. David Roberts said the autopsy indicates the 64-year-old man died of a gunshot wound, and the shot was taken by someone other than him.

"We did delay the information about it being a homicide from coming out earlier, because we were waiting on a search warrant to be able to go into the vehicle and make sure there was not a gun in the vehicle," he said. "We did not want to call it a homicide and then have it ruled a suicide."

Roberts did not say if there was any evidence gathered at the scene, but did say a $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Garland, 64, of Henderson was pronounced dead at the scene and the autopsy was ordered by Rusk County Justice of the Peace precinct 4, Darlene Childress.

Garland's body was found in the vehicle on County Road 4107 near Highway 64.

Roberts said the Texas Rangers are assisting in the case.
