$1M worth of marijuana seized from California pair

About $1.2 million worth of marijuana was seized Friday from a traffic stop in Smith County.

A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper pulled over a rented 2013 Ford Expedition on Interstate 20 near Lindale, according to a news release from the department.

The trooper noted several discrepancies in the information given by the people in the car and asked to search the vehicle, which was granted. The car was headed to Florida from California, the release states.

Inside the SUV, authorities found about 240 pounds of marijuana hidden in several duffel bags, the release states.

The driver, 33-year-old Joseph Bridges and his passenger, 41-year-old Kristina Watts, were arrested for a second-degree felony charge of possession of marijuana, and booked into the Smith County Jail. The charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in jail and a fine not exceeding $10,000, according to the release.
