ELKHART – Anderson County sheriff’s deputies have just cleared the scene of what they call a murder and attempted suicide at a residence in the heart of Elkhart.
Anderson County Sheriff Gregg Taylor said his office received a 911 call about 9 a.m. today about a possible shooting at the home located at 1408 Parker Street, which is at the corner of U.S. Highway 287 south, and a block away from the Elkhart Elementary School.
Once on the scene, Taylor said deputies made a forced entry, where they discovered a deceased woman in her 40s, and a man lying face down but still breathing.
“At this time, we are investigating this as a murder-attempted suicide, and we are still not releasing any names at this time due to pending notification of families,” Taylor said.
The sheriff said the man was airlifted to a Tyler hospital, where he is being treated for wounds.
Taylor said the man and woman were either divorced or separated. The man did not live in the home, Taylor added.
“We’re still investigating, but he was definitely an estranged husband, if not an ex-husband.”
The couple’s school-aged children are being taken care of by counselors, Taylor said.
