PITTSBURG - A 2 hour man hunt took place in Pittsburg last night.
Pittsburg Police Chief Richard Penn says a man allegedly robbed 2 convenience stores on the intersection of Highway 271 and Lafayette Street. He then tried to set a Pittsburg ISD building on fire just blocks away from the stores.
Pittsburg Police are not releasing the identity of the suspect but say he is white, in his 40's and is visiting Texas from Arizona.
Police Chief Penn says they were first called out to a robbery in progress at around 9:45 Tuesday night, the second call came in shortly after in regards to a 2nd armed robbery across the street, and then a call came in at around 10:00 of a structure fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the man set a car tire on fire and placed it next to the building. In attempts to distract Police in hopes of getting away. The building was on the Pittsburg ISD Intermediate School campus. According to a Pittsburg ISD Board Member, the building is only used for storage and should not effect school on Wednesday.
A manhunt in Pittsburg began and it prompted at least 5 agencies on foot, and air patrol from Texas DPS to search for the man. He was caught and placed in custody just before midnight.
Police are not releasing names at this time. No injuries were recorded in the alleged robberies and arson.
