Group now accepting scholarship applications

The East Texas Communities Foundation is accepting applications from East Texas students for its 39 scholarship funds.

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. March 3 unless noted otherwise. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online.

A student may apply for every scholarship for which he or she meets the eligibility requirements. Applicants should complete a separate application for each scholarship.

Detailed eligibility criteria and links to the applications are available under the “Scholarships/Students/Student Guide and Available Scholarships” tab on the foundation’s website atwww.etcf.org .

Three new scholarships are the:

n Art Excellence Scholarship is for art majors, preferably nontraditional students at The University of Texas at Tyler; $500.

n Ben and Florine Ramsey Scholarship is for graduating seniors or prior graduates of San Augustine High School; $750.

n Glenn and Vivian Prater Memorial Scholarship is for an Eagle Scout who has graduated or is graduating from high school in East Texas and Liberty County who has been accepted to or is attending Texas A&M University; $500.

Other scholarships being offered this year are:

n David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship for Vocational/Technical Study in Medically Related Fields is for East Texas students pursuring a vocational/technical associate’s degree or certificate in a medically related field; $1,500, renewable for the length of the program.

n David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship in Chemistry is for East Texas graduating seniors majoring in chemistry; $3,000, renewable for up to four years.

n David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship in Medicine, Biotechnology, and Veterinary Medicine is for East Texas graduating seniors who plan to major in biology, mathematics, engineering or a related field that will allow them to pursue a career as a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, or biotechnologist; $3,000, renewable for up to four years.

n J.M. Braithwaite TJC Nursing Scholarship is for East Texas students pursuing a nursing degree at Tyler Junior College; $1,000, renewable for the length of the program.

n Dr. Elbert H. Caldwell Scholarship is for an East Texas resident wishing to pursue a career in a medically related field, with a preference for nursing; $2,500, renewable.

n East Texas Geological Society Scholarship is for students (college sophomores or higher) pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in geology in Texas; $1,500, renewable for up to two years.

n Winifred George Scholarship is for a graduating senior from a Smith County high school who is attending Abilene Christian University; $1,000, renewable for up to four years.

n J.L. Gulley, Jr. Texas Tech Scholarship is for a graduating senior or a previous graduate from a high school in East Texas or Quanah who plans to attend Texas Tech University; $5,000, renewable for up to four years.

n Richard B. and Mary Lou Hamm Scholarship is for Bullard High School graduating seniors planning to attend The University of Texas at Tyler; $1,000, renewable for up to four years.

n Allen and Nancy Locklin Scholarship is for graduating seniors from Smith County attending The University of Texas at Tyler; $2,000, renewable for up to five years.

n Gladys and Thomas “TB” Stewart Scholarship is for graduating seniors from Smith County and surrounding high schools; $2,000, renewable for up to four years.

n Adam Carroll Scholarship is for a Grand Saline High School graduating senior who has participated in high school athletics or cheerleading (Van Zandt, Wood or Smith Counties only); $500.

n Citizens 1st Bank/Perkins Family Foundation Scholarship is for children of State of Texas employees who are residents of Cherokee, Nacogdoches or Smith Counties. Prior recipients may reapply; $1,000.

n Betty and Roy Erickson Scholarship is for graduating seniors from East Texas high schools with all “A” averages; $1,000.

n Alex Fleming Infinity Scholarship is for a graduating senior from Whitehouse High School who has participated in band for four years; $1,500.

n Tim King Memorial Scholarship is for a graduating senior from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler who plans to attend The University of Texas at Austin and major in business; $2,500.

n Lauren Lewis Scholarship is for a graduating senior from Robert E. Lee High School or All Saints Episcopal School of Tyler who has been accepted to attend Texas A&M University. The scholarship deadline is April 1; $1,000.

n Juliette Low’s Amazing Girls Scholarship is for a female student who is a graduating senior from a Smith County high school and who was involved in Girl Scouting; $1,000.

n Christopher Lyon Memorial Scholarship is for art majors at The University of Texas at Tyler; $1,000.

n Natural Gas Society of East Texas Scholarship is for Texas undergraduate or graduate level college students who have declared a major that directly relates to the energy industry; $1,000.

n Gary Neel Memorial Scholarship is for a Robert E. Lee High School graduating senior who will be attending The University of Texas at Austin; $2,500.

n Partners in Arts Scholarship is for Smith County graduating seniors planning on pursuing a degree in one of the performing or visual arts; $1,000.

n Leslie Reid Memorial Scholarship is for any female Henderson County graduating senior who has participated in horse shows; $1,000.

n Retail Merchants Association Scholarship is for graduating seniors from Smith County and select surrounding high schools who plan to major in business; $1,000.

n Samsung Scholarship is for graduating seniors from Tyler ISD and Marshall ISD; $8,000.

n Samsung Math Science Technology Scholarship is for graduating seniors from Tyler ISD and Marshall ISD majoring in math, science, or technology; $8,000.

n Samsung Football Scholarship is for a graduating senior from Tyler ISD or Marshall ISD who is a member of the football team; $5,000.

n Kristen and Joey Seeber Scholarship is for a graduating senior from Robert E. Lee High School or John Tyler High School; $500.

n Sharyland Utilities Scholarship is for a graduating senior from select high schools in Hunt, Collin, and Fannin Counties who plans to major in engineering; $400.

n Smith County Baptist Ministers Scholarship is for dependent children of ordained ministers serving congregations that are members of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Prior recipients may reapply; amount is to be determined.

n Gerald and Charlie Stoker Memorial Scholarship is for a graduating senior from Winnsboro High School; $500.

n Texas Rose Festival Scholarship is for a graduating senior at a Smith County high school or a current college student who graduated from a Smith County school; $350.

n Tyler Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association Scholarship is for children of current employees of the City of Tyler Police Department. Prior recipients may reapply; $5,000.

n Sherilyn A. Willis, M.D. Medical Scholarship is for a student attending medical school in Texas; $500.

n A.D. and Mary Winston Scholarship is for a Smith County public school graduating senior planning to attend Texas A&M University; $1,000.

n Tiffany Lynn Zanolini Memorial Scholarship is for a female graduating senior at a Smith County high school who has participated in varsity soccer; $1,000.
