A 22-year-old man was jailed Friday after being arrested in connection with a Longview homicide.
The Longview Police Department in cooperation with the Smith County Sheriff’s Office arrested Alejandro Garcia Gallegos about 6 a.m. Friday in rural Smith County.
Gallegos was arrested on a charge of murder and booked into the Gregg County Jail on a $500,000 bond, according to a police department news release.
Gallegos was interviewed as part of an ongoing investigation into the death of Longview resident Andres Chavez, 19.
Chavez was found dead in the 1100 block of Sabine Street early Monday. His body was lying outside a car near a wooded area.
An autopsy revealed Chavez died of blunt force trauma to the head and sharp force injuries to the neck.
The autopsy also indicated skull fractures, lacerations and abrasions to the head and neck. The cause of death was listed as homicide.
