A Tyler pastor is the latest addition to the seven-member Tyler ISD board of trustees.

The school board on Friday appointed Ross Strader, senior pastor of Bethel Bible Church, as the single-member District 5 trustee.

Strader replaces Brad Spradlin, who served for 11 years and resigned effective Dec. 16. Spradlin cited a desire to focus on family and business responsibilities as his reason for resigning.

Strader, 42, has three children, ages 16, 13, and 8, who all attend TISD schools.

His wife, Leslie Strader, is vice president of Tyler Proud, an organization that exists to support TISD and provide input to the school board and administration. The organization actively supported the passage of the school district’s $160.5 million bond proposal.

Strader said he loves public schools and wants to in every way be an advocate for TISD and the community.

He thanked Spradlin, who was not in attendance, for his service and said he hopes he can serve the district as well as him.

Strader will serve for five months until May 2014, when the district will have an election for his position and other seats. Whoever is elected the District 5 trustee at that time will serve until May 2015.
