A man for whom authorities were searching Thursday night in the Lindale area was captured today after he was seen attempting to gain entry into a FBI agent's home.

Smith County Precinct 5 Constable Ken Bibby said the 23-year-old man was interviewed by Lindale police.

Police began searching for the man after he stole several items from the Lindale Walmart, crashed into another motorist, and fled into the woods on foot.

Authorities called off the search shortly before midnight.

Bibby said this morning a resident called police, saying the man was trying to gain entry in a shed on an FBI agent's property.

"Before officers could get there, he had left the scene, but they saw him running nearby and took him into custody. He made a statement that he knew we were looking for him and that he spent a cold night out in the woods," he said.

Lindale Police Chief Dan Somes said the Rowlett man told authorities he slept in an abandoned car on County Road 4200.

Somes said the vehicle the man was driving had been reported stolen, but at this time the man faces only misdemeanor charges.
