A 41-year-old Tyler man pleaded guilty to a charge of continuous sexual assault of a child younger than 14 for more than 30 days in the Smith County 241st District Court on Thursday.

David Brice Hartman received a life sentence from Judge Jack Skeen Jr. and is not eligible for parole for the first-degree felony, Smith County Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Biggs said. The female victim was about 8 years old when the abuse occurred.

Hartman was indicted on Sept. 26 on the child abuse charge, which occurred from December 2008 until June 2013. Tyler defense attorney Zachary Davis represented Hartman.
