The Tyler Public Library is introducing a contest based on the popular “Elf on the Shelf” book and toy, according to a news release from the city. Each day, beginning Wednesday through Dec.19, children younger than 12 and their families are invited to the Library to find the Elf on a book shelf.

“The Elf will be hiding somewhere different each day in our Children’s book collection, reading a great book.  We are hoping to encourage some family fun during the holiday season,” Youth Services Librarian Linda Gray said.

To participate, families pick up an entry form at the Information Desk and look for the elf.

“Children should leave the elf on the shelf to finish his book; isn’t that what every reader wants? We ask you to list where you found the elf, and what great book he was reading,” Ms. Gray said.

Families can enter once every day by returning a completed form to the information desk. Entry forms ask for name, library card number and contact information. Library cards are free of charge for residents of Tyler and available at the checkout desk. On Dec. 20, one entry will be randomly selected to win an Elf prize package, including an Elf and “Elf on the Shelf” book.
