Lighten Up East Texas participants have only two more days to submit their ending weight as the challenge comes to a close.
Participants can choose to go to an official weigh out site listed at www.LightenUpEastTexas.com or weigh out from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the J.C. Penney Court at Broadway Square Mall, the last opportunity to do so.
The weight loss challenge — created by the Fit City Challenge Coalition and sponsored in part by Brookshire Grocery Company and Allen Samuels Tyler — is a communitywide movement to create a healthier East Texas.
“Our goal for this event was to encourage East Texans to take control of their health, to make smart and healthy choices, to make time for physical activity and to ultimately lose weight in a healthy way,” said George Roberts, chief executive officer at NET Health and Fit City co-chair.
Participants will receive entries into a grand prize drawing for every 5 percent of weight lost, tracked from an official weigh-in at the start and the official weigh-out at the end of the challenge. They must have an official weigh out to be eligible for prize drawings.
Winners will be announced during a LUET celebration and prize ceremony from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 12 on the patio of Brookshire’s FRESH, 6991 Old Jacksonville Highway. The grand prize drawing is a 2014 Dodge Dart, donated by Allen Samuels Tyler.
Other prizes include four $1,000 Brookshire’s gift cards, redeemable at any Brookshire’s or Super1Foods grocery stores. Smaller prizes will also be randomly selected from returning participants who lost less than 5 percent of their starting weight.
“When we established the Fit City Challenge in 2010, our mission statement was to make Tyler a Fit City one step, one bite and one health-conscious decision at a time,” Dave Berry, editor of the Tyler Morning Telegraph and Fit City co-chairman said. “We’ve seen much success from individuals and groups through the Lighten Up East Texas Challenge and are excited about seeing the results of those participating. We look forward to awarding great prizes and recognizing individuals who have adopted a healthier lifestyle and taken off unhealthy pounds.”
