'Poker for Ponies' event to benefit horse rescue efforts

Safe Haven Equine Rescue will have Poker for Ponies on Saturday at 3400 N. Fourth St., Longview. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and cost is $20 per rider.

A $500 cash prize will be given to the best hand.

Riders participating in Poker for Ponies will ride about 110 miles during the poker run while having fun and enjoying the scenery, according to a website about it.

The ride will start at Roughneck Harley in Longview, go to Jefferson, Hughes Springs, Pittsburg, followed by a ride to Safe Haven Equine Rescue, 4994 Farm-to-Market Road 2088, in Gilmer.

There will be door prizes, raffles, food and silent auction starting at 4:30 p.m. Safe Haven is an organization that helps rescue, rehabilitate and find homes for horses in need. Call 903-762-1432 for more information.
