East Texas State Fair packed with events before closing Sunday

The East Texas State Fair still has a lot to offer before it closes on Sunday.

The fair has new attractions including CountryFest, a concert set from 2:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

William Clark Green will headline CountryFest. Also set to perform are Kylie Rae Harris, Drew Womack, Dalton Domino and Ray Johnston Band.

Also new is the Tiger Show, featuring 10 caged tigers performing tricks. Tiger Show performances take place at 5:30, 7:30 and 9 p.m. each day.

New on the midway is Slingshot, a ride which launches people over 100 feet into the air. The fair also has a petting zoo, pony rides and the Miracle of Life Birthing Center. Patrons can watch artist  Ryan “Arcy” Christenson create a mural each day.

The fair will be open 2 to 11 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The midway opens at 4 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday and Sunday.

Gate admission is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 6 to 10. There are additional costs for riding carnival rides.

Parking is free along streets near the fairgrounds. The Tyler Lions Club operates lots near the fairgrounds and charges $3 to park. Handicap parking is available along Houston Street near the south entrance of the fairgrounds.

Tyler police advice motorists to be aware of lane closures on Front Street near the entrance to the fairgrounds. Officers will help people cross Front Street at the entrance this entrance.
