Miss Texas will stop by Pool Park in Lindale at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday to read to youngsters.

Margana Wood, who was crowned 2017-2018 Miss Texas, is originally from Houston and attended the University of Texas, earning a degree in corporate communications with a minor in rhetoric and writing.

On her yearlong speaking tour, Wood is spreading her message “You Belong,” her personal platform, according to the Miss Texas website. The platform seeks to teach lessons of inclusion and respect while teaching about bullying. She also plans to share with students a character-education program that focuses on the importance of staying in school, developing positive activities and habits, good citizenship, following rules and respecting authority.

Wood intends to compete in the Miss America 2018 pageant in September.

Tuesday's event is being hosted by the Lindale Library and the Lindale Rotary club.
