Two East Texas Medical Center-Jacksonville registered nurses have been selected by the East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System as DAISY Award winners, ETMC announced.
Rebecca Shaw and Deborah Tomlin were recognized as part of the DAISY Foundation’s program for going above and beyond in providing excellent care. Shaw has been a nurse in Jacksonville for seven years, and Tomlin has worked there for three years.
One of the nomination letters complimented Shaw as an extraordinary nurse. The nomination letter for Tomlin came from an inmate who praised her for listening to his story and making calls to make sure the incident was investigated after he came to the hospital after an overdose.
The DAISY Award was created in 1999 by a family in the U.S. after experiencing kindness and compassion from nurses with their loved one, who was terminal and in the hospital. DAISY stands for Disease Attacking the Immune System.
