Tyler resident Kitty Springer admits to being a happy individual by nature and to prove it she hosted an “International Day of Happiness” event at her home two years in a row. The movement has been sanctioned by the General Assembly of the United Nations. It has grown bigger with every passing year.
“It is proven that happy people are more productive, healthier, more successful, have more and better relationships. Research also shows happiness is an incredibly important part of life and should never be dismissed,” Mrs. Springer said. “A committee member has built us a two section 4-by-5 wall for people to post what they are doing for the day of happiness.”
The International Day of Happiness committee will host an event 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 20 on the downtown square in Tyler. For every post to the wall, Live Happy magazine, the sponsor for this international movement, will donate $1 to benefit the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.
“Fresh is donating bottled water, and we are expecting 500 people to come throughout the day,” Mrs. Springer said. “Anyone interested would find a lot of information, and come with a smile on your face.”
According to the International Day of Happiness website, individuals can text 82257 and receive a text message for a reminder of why to be happy.
“My text today was take the scenic route,” said Mrs. Springer. “It’s as simple as that.”
