Who doesn’t love a basket of chips with a big bowl of salsa. Chunky, thick, thin or fresh — we all have our personal favorites. And for some of us, making homemade salsa with fresh ingredients is a special treat we love to share with friends and family.

Whether it’s cooked, canned or fresh, you’ll be met with rave reviews for your homemade creation. So, of course, you believe your salsa is the best and you, along with everyone you share it with, would definitely stand behind that statement.

So now is the time to earn best salsa bragging rights in the Sizzling Salsa Showdown that will be part of the Fiery Foods Festival at FRESH by Brookshire’s from Aug. 9 through 17.

Not only will you win the salsa bragging rights, but you also will receive a $100 FRESH gift card, $500 to your favorite non-profit — donated by FRESH and the Tyler Morning Telegraph — and your recipe featured on the front page of the FLAVOR section on Aug. 21. How great is that?

Here’s how it works. Submit your recipe to the FRESH concierge desk or email to between July 31 and Aug. 7. Provide a recipe name, cook/prep time, number of servings, list of ingredients and instructions.

A panel of judges will review the recipes and on August 10 three finalists will be announced.

This is where your friends and family come into the picture and the bragging rights war begins. Voting for the three finalists will take place at FRESH from Aug. 10 through 16. The winner will be announced in the FLAVOR section of the Tyler Morning Telegraph on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

You also can be a winner by voting. One lucky voter will have the chance to win a $50 FRESH gift card.

So it’s a win-win situation. The recipe winner gets bragging rights, $100 gift card and $500 for their favorite nonprofit, and the voters get to enjoy some great salsa recipes and chance to win a $50 FRESH gift card.

By the way, did I mention I get to be one of the judges? I’m very excited about this one. I see a whole lot of chips and salsa in my future. And I know there are some great recipes out there I can’t wait to try. So, get your recipe ready. The submission period starts today. Full details and contest rules are available at
