Researchers: Vasectomy linked to risk of prostate cancer. Harvard researchers say that men who have had a vasectomy are at risk for an aggressive prostate cancer. Their study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, followed more than 49,000 men since 1986. Mississippi girl believed to be cured of HIV has relapsed. A Mississippi girl, now nearly 4, born with HIV and in remission for more than two years despite stopping treatment now shows signs that she still has the virus.
Doctors had hoped that early treatment with powerful drugs might reverse the infection. Doctors found the virus in her blood Thursday, and there were signs her immune system was weakened. They say she is back on treatment and is responding well.
CDC scares shut down labs. Government health officials shut down flu and anthrax labs following a series of serious incidents. In recent weeks, they also stopped shipment of all infectious agents as they investigate the incidents. Included were the contamination of a benign flu with a sample of the deadly H5N1 bird flu, discovery of missing vials that contained the live small pox virus and 80 scientists being exposed to live anthrax.
