Parental Care Ministries Ugandan choir to perform around East Texas

A 20-member Ugandan choir comprising children and adults will tour East Texas starting Saturday to share their culture and faith with this community.

The choir, which represents Parental Care Ministries, has been in the U.S. for about a month, performing in seven other states before arriving in Texas.

Justin Hayes, director of ministry operations for Parental Care Ministries-USA, said their performances include a blend of singing and dancing. Some of the songs are from their own culture, while others are praise and worship songs.

The choir’s U.S. tours began in 2013, Hayes said. After visiting Uganda for several years, the PCM-USA had been blown away by the joy and worship of the Ugandans.

They wanted people to experience it who may not ever have the chance to visit Uganda.

“They’re really here just to encourage people and to share the love of Jesus,” Hayes said.

PCM-USA began as a way to support PCM-Uganda in its creations of schools and churches.

In the past nine years, the Ugandan ministry has gone from having one school serving 200 students along with a few churches to five schools serving 2,000 students, and 85 churches.

They also have a medical clinic, house for abandoned babies, a radio station that reaches 5 million people and a chicken house to help provide for the children.
