School supply giveaway, church anniversary among upcoming faith-based events

Bethany Word of Life Tabernacle, 6808 Paluxy Drive in Tyler, will have a back-to-school backpacks and school supplies giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 26, on the church campus. Holly Brook Baptist Church, 3219 S. Farm-to-Market Road 2869 in Hawkins, will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Sunday, with a potluck luncheon for members, former members and friends following the morning worship service.

Dr. David Hardage, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, is the scheduled speaker for the 11 a.m. service.



The Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary will have its fall convocation events Tuesday and Thursday. Dr. Joe Nesom, of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Louisiana, is the scheduled guest speaker. Brother Jay Pollan, of Unity Baptist Church of Hope, Arkansas, will direct the music. The topic is “What offices does Christ execute as our Redeemer?” Messages will include: “Jesus our Priest,” 10 a.m. Tuesday; “Jesus our Prophet,” 3 p.m. Tuesday; and “Jesus our King,” 10 a.m. Thursday.



The Kilgore Police Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Clergy and Police Alliance Academy scheduled for Sept. 21 to Nov. 16. Applications are available at the police department, 909 N. Kilgore St., or online at . Deadline to apply is Sept. 15. The academy will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday nights. Christ Community Church, 5625 N. Loop 256, in Palestine will have Revival Services with Brother David Borg from Jimmy Swaggart Ministries Sept. 8 to 10. The Sept. 8 service will begin at 7 p.m.; the Sept. 9 service at 10 a.m.; and the Sept. 10 service at 7 p.m. Borg will minister in each of the services and the regular 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. Central Baptist Church of Mabank, 116 W. Mount Vernon St., will present its Second Annual Women's Conference from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 9. The theme will be “Seeing the Unseen: The Eyes of God in the Mind of Man.” The goal is for attendees to learn how to see their lives with the eyes of God. Admission is free and lunch will be provided.  The event will include music, door prizes, guest speakers and an afternoon breakout session. Community Christian Fellowship, 15704 State Highway 110 N. Lindale, will kick off the 2017-18 year of Moms Inc. on Sept. 19. The theme, “A Year of Blessing,” comes from a Bible-based curriculum, which is designed to help a mom’s journey to experience a life of blessing more fully. The regular meetings are scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month and include time for fellowship, study, and potluck brunch. SIGHT NIGHT will have Sight Night "The Joy of Sight" from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 at Callynth Photography Studio in Tyler. Tickets go for a $5 minimum donation. The event will include local art, live music and food. All proceeds will benefit the work of to restore sight to the blind in Togo, Africa.
