'One Nation Under God' rally set for Sunday, among upcoming faith-based events

Grace Fellowship Church of Flint will hold a patriotic event that will celebrate the theme that the United States is “One Nation Under God” from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler. The event will feature music, prayers and praise and worship. The East Texas Men in Harmony and retired U.S. Army Chaplin Lt. Col. New Days Community Church, 901 N. Broadway Ave., will put on a citywide food drive to benefit the PATH Food Pantry from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Community members are urged to help fight hunger by bringing nonperishable food or financial donations to the church’s parking lot during the event.



The Greater St. Mary Baptist Church, 1615 Texas College Road in Tyler, will celebrate its 124th Anniversary with a picnic on Saturday and service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The theme for the event is “Hope is Our Anchor” based on the New Testament passage in Hebrews 6:19. The late Rev. Reuben Wright established the church in Tyler in 1893. Since then, it has grown and developed into a religious institution which aims to touch lives and generate hope and love based on a ministry that addresses people’s spiritual, social, and physiological needs. The Rev. Michael D. Glaspie Sr., associate pastor at Mount Olive Baptist Church of Arlington, is the scheduled guest speaker. He is a Tyler native and a graduate of Emmett J. Scott High School.



The 2017 East Texas Crusade for Christ is set for 6:30 p.m. daily Sunday to Thursday at Kilgore College’s Dodson Auditorium, 817 Nolen St. The event is free and open-to-the-public. The event will include special entertainment in addition to the evangelistic features. Each evening will last about two hours. The Sunday evening kick-off includes an ice cream social.



Holly Brook Baptist Church, 3219 S. Farm-to-Market Road 2869 in Hawkins, will focus on the stars as students become “Galactic Starveyors” during this summer’s Vacation Bible School. The annual Bible study is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Friday. Children through sixth are welcome. Carter BloodCare will have a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 9 at Community Christian Fellowship, 15704 Texas Highway 110 N in Lindale. The blood drive will take place on the south side of the main building.



Bethany Word of Life Tabernacle, 6808 Paluxy Drive in Tyler, will present its 2017 Faith Conference at 7 p.m. July 13 to 14 on the church campus. Evangelist Madeline Kennedy is the scheduled guest speaker and Sister JuWanda Allen will serve as the featured guest psalmist. Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1723 E. Front St. in Tyler, will have Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. July 20-21 and 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. July 22 for children 4 years old through completed fifth grade. The Southern Plainsmen Quartet is scheduled to perform at Sunrise Assembly of God, 4339 Farm-to-Market Road 315 South in Chandler, at 6 p.m. July 23. It is a free concert, though a love offering will be accepted.



Camp Out VBS at Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church, 417 County Road 1143 in Tyler, is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 29. Lunch will be provided. The day will include team-building games, Bible-based songs, and multisensory Bible adventures. Some of the activities might be a bit messy so children should come in play clothes and sturdy shoes. Parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to join at 10 a.m. July 30 for a dramatic, campfire-style celebration of God’s love.
