Healing service, block party among upcoming faith-based events

The Texas Educational Baptist State Convention will have its 2017 Woman of the Year event at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at the DC Brown Heritage Building. The event will include a hat parade and Women of the Year candidates from each district. Dr. Merilyn Session is the coordinator.



Lone Star – Warrior - Church, 604 W. Fourth St., in Tyler will have a Warrior Peer Group at 11 a.m. Thursdays. The group is designed for veterans and first responders who want a safe place to openly discuss the realities of what they have seen through their service. Hopewell Cemetery Association will have its annual memorial meeting on June 4 at Swan Baptist Church. Worship services will begin at 10:45 a.m., followed by the association’s business meeting, and a covered-dish lunch in the Fellowship Building. The cemetery is maintained through donations received from the family and friends of people buried in the cemetery. Contributions can be sent to Hopewell Cemetery Association, 15111 County Road 498, Lindale, TX, 75771.

Faith Baptist Church, 405 S. Hart St. in Quitman, invites the community to attend the Faith Outside the Walls End of School Year Block Party from 6 to 8 p.m. June 9 in the church parking lot. The free event will include activities such as a cakewalk, bounce house, silent auction, and petting zoo. New cars and trucks as well as classic vehicles will be on display. In addition, vehicles and personnel from the Quitman Police and Volunteer Fire Department, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department and an ambulance from East Texas Medical Center will be at the event. Free food and drinks will be served, and door prizes will be awarded during the two hours of celebration.



New Birth Tyler Church presents The Great Tea Cake Bake-Off Contest at 2 p.m. June 10 at the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler. A cash grant will be presented to the top winner. To be a contestant or find out about the rules email TexasEvent365@gmail.com by June 2.



Christ Community Church, 5625 N. Loop 256 in Palestine, will have a Kid’s Crusade for children ages 4 and up June 23 to 25. Youth and adults are welcome to attend. There is no registration fee, but an offering will be received in each service. Pastor Mike Muzzerall and team from Brother Jimmy Swaggart Ministries in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, are scheduled to speak. Service times include: 6:30 p.m. June 23; 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. June 24; and 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. June 25. The Grace Fellowship Church of Flint is planning a “One Nation Under God” rally from 3 to 5 p.m. June 25 at the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler.
