Block party, rally among upcoming faith-based events around East Texas

Fairwood United Methodist Church, 1712 Old Omen Road in Tyler, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a special service at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. A potluck lunch will follow. The church is the product of a merger between Walter Fair United Methodist Church and Glenwood United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jonathan Bynum is scheduled to be the guest speaker. Rev. Bynum is the lead pastor at Bear Creek United Methodist Church in Houston and the son of the Rev. Dan Bynum, who was the only Methodist pastor who served both churches prior to the merger on May 27, 2007.



Impact, a contemporary praise and worship band from the University of Mobile is bringing its 2017 Summer Tour to East Texas. The band comprises a high energy, diverse group of auditioned musicians who take the current worship sounds to church stages nationwide, according to a news release. The group is scheduled to perform at 10 a.m. Sunday at Lane’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 8720 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler. Group member Joshua Walters is a 2015 Whitehouse High School graduate and a worship leadership major at the University of Mobile.



Community Christian Fellowship, 15704 Texas Highway 110 N in Lindale, invites all women to a six-session weekly DVD Bible study series called “When God’s Spirit Moves” by Jim Cymbala, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays. The optional participant’s guide costs $7 and will be available to purchase during the first session.



Lone Star – Warrior - Church, 604 W. Fourth St., in Tyler will have a Warrior Peer Group at 11 a.m. Thursdays. The group is designed for veterans and first responders who want a safe place to openly discuss the realities of what they have seen through their service. Faith Baptist Church, 405 S. Hart St. in Quitman, invites the community to attend the Faith Outside the Walls End of School Year Block Party from 6 to 8 p.m. June 9 in the church parking lot. The free event will include activities such as a cakewalk, bounce house, silent auction, and petting zoo. New cars and trucks as well as classic vehicles will be on display. In addition, vehicles and personnel from the Quitman Police and Volunteer Fire Department, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department and an ambulance from East Texas Medical Center will be at the part. Free food and drinks will be served, and door prizes will be awarded during the two hours of celebration.



Christ Community Church, 5625 N. Loop 256 in Palestine, will have a Kid’s Crusade for children ages 4 and up June 23 to 25. Youth and adults are welcome to attend. There is no registration fee, but an offering will be received in each service. Pastor Mike Muzzerall and team from Brother Jimmy Swaggart Ministries in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, are scheduled to speak. Service times include: 6:30 p.m. June 23; 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. June 24; and 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. June 25. The Grace Fellowship Church of Flint is planning a “One Nation Under God” rally from 3 to 5 p.m. June 25 at the T.B. Butler Fountain Plaza in downtown Tyler.
