Freddie Mae’s Original Home Cooking & BBQ, a soul food and Southern cooking restaurant that opened in October 2016, has closed. There’s a “for lease” sign at the property on Martin Luther King Boulevard.

According to the restaurant’s Facebook page, it closed temporarily in September but reopened after about a week.

This time, it appears to be permanent. There’s no answer at the restaurant’s phone number.

Freddie Mae’s was opened last fall by Freddie Ross. It was named for his grandmother.

“I remember growing up, my grandma’s food was the best,” Ross said last year. “I look back on how she prepared the food for our family, a good size family, feeding so many kids all at one time. It wasn’t easy. But everything she did was done with care.”

She was an inspiration to Ross, who had been a chef at Emerald Bay Country Club for 22 years.

This story is developing.
