OFFICERS

On Tuesday, the Tyler Area Builders Association installed its slate of officers at their membership luncheon at the Cascades Country Club. The 2014 TABA officers are President Kerry Hamblett, Vice President Gary Bayless, Secretary/Treasurer Erin Wright, Immediate Past President Carlton Edwards and Executive Vice President Libby Simmons. Directors (Builders) are Jeff Andreason, Clyde Beaty, Jason Campbell, John McKinney, Matthew Peer, Ed Thompson, Roy Williamson and James Wilson. Directors (Associates) are Shelley Flowers (Chairman), Max Anderson, Sheila Dixon, Ryan Hall and Sam Oliphant.

The association also named Carlton Edwards, of Carlton Edwards Builder & Designer, as the 2013 Builder of the Year and Shelley Flowers, of Altra Federal Credit Union, as the 2013 Associate of the Year.

 

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Tyler Independent School District announced the hiring of Maya Bethany as the executive director of the Tyler ISD Foundation. Mrs. Bethany was approved by the foundation’s board of directors and joins the Tyler ISD Foundation from the Lindale Independent School District, where she currently serves as the district’s communications specialist and executive director of the Lindale ISD Education Foundation. She previously worked as a local news reporter and sports anchor from 2004 to 2009. An Emmy-winning journalist known on-air as Maya Golden, she earned several Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awards.

ANNUAL MEETING

Heart of Tyler will hold its annual meeting on Jan. 21.The event, which will begin with a 6 p.m. social hour, will be held at the R.B. Hubbard building, at 304 E. Ferguson. The program is set for 7 p.m. New board members will be elected, and the Brick Award will be presented to the person, business or group deemed to have contributed outstanding support of downtown revitalization in the past year. ANNOUNCEMENT

Robroy Industries Conduit Division announced that Kyle Gregory was appointed plant manager of its Gilmer facility. Gregory brings to Robroy Industries more than 10 years of operations and plant management experience. Gregory earned a certificate of engineering of lean concepts from the University of Kentucky and has spent more than 15 years managing electrical maintenance within a manufacturing environment.

 

CONFERENCE

Jerry Nelson, CPA, attended the 2013 AICPA Construction Industry Annual Conference. The conference offers advanced learning for certified public accountants working with the construction industry.  The conference presents instructive information and guidance to prepare for recent developments and upcoming changes in accounting, auditing, taxation, and financial management for contractors. BREAKFAST 

The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce will host a “Power Networking” Business Breakfast on from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Traditions, at 6205 S. Broadway Ave. The cost is $10 paid at the door. Reservations are limited to one representative from each member business. Come prepared to give a one minute commercial at the round table. TRAINING

The East Texas Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist will begin its 2014 Training Class on Feb. 22. Texas Master Naturalist classes provide in-depth training in wildlife and natural resource management taught by recognized experts in the field and customized to focus on the native ecosystems of our East Texas area. Classes will be held for seven weeks on Saturdays from Feb. 22 through April 12 (excluding March 15). Classes will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nature Center, at 11941 Farm-to-Market Road 848 in Tyler. Lunches will be provided. CONFERENCE

Parenting Services Center will hold a Parenting Conference “Chaos to Calm” on from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Ornelas Activity Center, 3402 Old Omen Road. The featured speaker will be Kelly Smith, a recognized child behavior specialist. The event is open to the public and registration before Saturday is $35. Proof of attendance will be provided for parents, foster parents, and childcare providers and continuing education credit is available for professional counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists and teachers.
