A bicyclist fatally struck by a vehicle near Mineola on Saturday has been identified as Thomas Albert Marty, 73, of Lindale.

Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to the crash on Highway 69 and County Road 452, about two miles south of Mineola.

A DPS preliminary crash investigation revealed that Marty was on a bicycle traveling north in the shoulder of Highway 69 shortly after noon Saturday when he was struck. A 2009 Ford Focus driven by Vanessa Cervantes, 20, of Tyler, also was also traveling north in the outside lane of Highway 69. Marty attempted to turn left, entering the outside lane of traffic in front of the Ford. Cervantes was unable to avoid the collision with the bicycle, according to a  DPS press release.

Marty was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Tyler Bicycle Club's social medial posts, CPR was administered by people who had stopped when they saw the crash.
