The position of Smith County Fire Marshal, which has been vacant since Jim Seaton's death last month, has been filled with the announcement of Jay Brooks as the new fire marshal.
Brooks, a Lindale police officer and former assistant fire marshal for the county, was offered the job and has accepted, the Smith County commissioners announced this morning.
Brooks told the newspaper a few weeks ago that he and Seaton had multiple conversations about Brooks taking Seaton's place upon the latter's death.
Seaton died April 3, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He served as the county's fire marshal for more than a decade.
More information about Brooks will be posted later today here on TylerPaper.com and in tomorrow's Tyler Morning Telegraph.
