A severe storm that brought heavy rain, wind and hail to East Texas on Friday evening knocked out electrical power to thousands of residents.
About 8,000 customers of Oncor in the Tyler area and another 4,000 in Palestine were without power after the storm, Charles Hill, eastern region customer operations manager for Oncor, told the Tyler Morning Telegraph.
Palestine police reported numerous trees down, some having fallen on roads.
According to our news partner, KYTX CBS19, numerous power outages are being reported across Tyler, including The French Quarter off South Broadway Avenue and in the shopping center where Hastings is located on South Broadway.
The red light at Donnybrook Avenue and Loop 323 in Tyler was reported to be out, along with the traffic light at the intersection of Paluxy Drive and Grande Boulevard in Tyler. Police are directing traffic.
Also, the light is out at Ross and Gentry.
In East Texas, 1,200 Swepco customers were reported to be out of power; 630 customers in Rusk County were out; and 114 customers in Panola County and 456 customers in Franklin County were without power, according to KYTX CBS19.Staff Reports.
