Judge to decide where three children whose mother was slain, allegedly by husband, will be placed

District Judge Carol Clark is scheduled to hear testimony this morning to determine where three children will be placed after their mother was shot dead last month. 

Jennifer Ramirez Mata died Feb. 25 after being shot by her husband, 29-year-old Adrain Mata, according to Smith County Sheirff officials who have charged the man with her homicide and the aggravated assault of another individual.

Mata is believed to have shot his wife before fleeing to a home in the Villages on Lake Palestine, where he was apprehended without further incident. 

Mata is in the Smith County Jail on a $1 million bond awaiting trial in the case. 

The placement of the Mata's three children is before Judge Clark. Since the homicide, the chldren have been with Mrs. Mata's family and her mother is asking the judge for custody of the children.
