A man charged with killing his wife and another man has reportedly attempted suicide in the Van Zandt County Jail.

Sheriff Lindsey Ray said Larry Maples has been transported to Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler after he was found hanging in his cell early this morning.

Ray said the inmate used a bed sheet and was found during a routine check.

"Jail staff immediately summoned help and removed the sheet from around the inmate’s neck and began first aid. Once first responders and ambulance personnel arrived the inmate was transported to Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler for further treatment," he said.

Maples has been in custody awaiting trial on capital murder, sexual abuse of a child continuous and attempted murder charges.
