Additional charges expected against homicide suspect Mata

New details surrounding the shooting death of a Tyler woman were released by the Smith County Sheriff's Office.

Adrian Ray Mata, age 29, for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Mata, age 30, Tuesday there was an incident that took place on CR 333 at approximately 8:00 a.m. prior to the murder relating to numerous shots being fired near Mata's residence.

This was not reported to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the event, but was learned during the investigation, John Moore of the department said. 

The Smith County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the medium gray PT Cruiser in which the suspect fled.

Moore said a pistol was recovered during Mata's arrest yesterday afternoon, but would not elaborate as to whether it is the murder weapon. It is currently being analyzed at the Texas Department of Public Safety Laboratory.

Moore said the SCSO does expect additional charges against Mata to be pursued and will announce those when they are filed.
