The Smith County Sheriff's Office received notification from Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science in Dallas that the cause of death for 14-year-old Jacob Hamilton Garrett of Whitehouse was mixed drug toxicity.

Garrett’s body was found on March 17 behind a business on Highway 110 between Whitehouse and Tyler. Dental records were used for the identification. Garrett’s family reported him as a runaway on Feb. 13 and the Sheriff’s Office used the media in an attempt to get the information out to the public.

The autopsy had revealed that no apparent foul play was involved, but the cause of death was not official until the results announced by the Sheriff’s department today.
