A mother has been reunited with her 4-year-old daughter this morning in Tyler’s Faulkner Park off South Broadway Avenue, after the child was able to get out of the family home.
Tyler police department public information officer Donald Martin said the family home has been without air conditioning for the past several days, and they have been sleeping with the windows open. The mother had gone to work, and the father was still asleep, unaware that the little girl had made her way out of the home, through an open window, in the Irish Meadows subdivision.
A person in the park found the girl and immediately contacted Tyler police, Martin said. As police scoured the area looking for anyone who may be missing a child, they came across the father, who was frantically searching a wooded area between the park and the subdivision.
Martin said the child is okay, but police are still questioning both parents at the scene.
The child’s mother is holding her daughter, who is wrapped in a sheet and holding a teddy bear given to her by Tyler police.
