One person has been arrested and another is still at large following a shooting in the Green Acres area of Tyler this morning.

Police identified the arrested suspect as Detavius Coats, 21, of Tyler. He was taken to the Smith County jail and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, according to a Tyler Police Department news release.

Around 6:26 a.m., the Tyler Police Department received a call of an auto burglary in the 3200 block of Curtis. The caller indicated that they had observed two subjects in the neighborhood in a blue Cadillac. The passenger in the Cadillac got out of the vehicle and walked up to a pickup truck. The witness observed the Cadillac drive away.

The passenger of the Cadillac broke out a window on the truck. As he was doing so, witnesses went to the pickup to contact the suspect. The suspect ran from the scene, and the witnesses followed. Witnesses later lost sight of the suspect, but went back to their house, got in a car and began to drive through the neighborhood. As they drove through the neighborhood, they located the blue Cadillac and began to follow it. At one point, the Cadillac got in behind the witnesses.

In the area of Dennis Drive and Dinah Lane, the driver of the blue Cadillac fired shots at the witnesses. Neither the witnesses nor the witnesses’ vehicle was struck by a bullet. An officer responding to the scene located a suspect that matched the description of the auto burglar. The suspect has been arrested, and his name is not available at this time, according to police. The suspect driving the Cadillac is still at large. The case remains under investigation.

Dennis Drive intersects with Troup Highway in the vicinity of the Hampton Inn hotel in the Green Acres area.
