A Thursday night accident in Smith County left a 5-year-old girl dead of injuries sustained in the crash.

Department of Public Safety trooper Jean Dark said the accident occurred on County Road 1113 (Lake Placid Road) about 10:10 p.m. Thursday.

Trooper Dark said Glynda Morrow, 53, of Chandler, was driving westbound on County Road 1113, about 3.5 miles outside of the Tyler city limits, when she lost control, crossed the roadway and struck a tree.

Trooper Dark said the speed limit in that area is 35 MPH and the investigation showed Ms. Morrow was traveling at an unsafe speed on wet roadway.

Morrow and 5-year-old Lydia Sykes, the only passenger, were transported to East Texas Medical Center, where the child was pronounced dead about 2:30 a.m. the following day.

Ms. Morrow was said to be in stable condition.

The accident was investigated by trooper Glenn Davenport, who was assisted by other troopers and the Noonday Fire Department.
