Remains identified as 2006 missing person: Woman was possible witness against former J'Ville officer

Human skeletal remains found in March in San Augustine County have been identified as missing person Shunte M. Coleman, who was last seen in July of 2006 in Cherokee County. She was 26 years old at the time of her disapperance.

The remains were discovered by a forester in a thickly wooded area of San Augustine County, located east of the “T” intersection of FM 1196 and County Road 347.  The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers, and the FBI, recovered the remains and had them examined by a forensic anthropologist at Sam Houston State University.  The remains were then delivered to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.

The investigation into Coleman’s death is being continued by the San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers and the FBI.
